PURPOSE
The purpose of the Mvskoke March 2016 is to create awareness about domestic violence in Indian Country and within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Also, the Mvskoke Nation Youth Council (MNYC) is traveling to the 40th Anniversary UNITY Conference in Oklahoma City. The MNYC is UNITY affiliate, composed of Mvskoke youth ages 12-24. Along with creating awareness regarding domestic violence, this walk will serve as a commemorative walk honoring UNITY. The Mvskoke March 2016 will start in Okmulgee, OK and end in Oklahoma City, OK. The walkers will cover approximately 110 miles to reach the host hotel of the UNITY Conference. The Mvskoke March is youth led & youth driven, with adult support.
MVSKOKE MARCH 2016 ROUTE
The Mvskoke March 2016 will start in Okmulgee, OK at the Historic Muscogee (Creek) Nation Council House on July 18th, 2016. With regards to safety, the walkers will not travel along Interstate 40. The walkers will walk on Highway 56, then join Highway 62. The walkers will travel through the towns of: Okmulgee, Okemah, Castle, Boley, Paden, Prague, Meeker, Jacktown, Harah, Choctaw, and finally enter the OKC Metro Area. There will be four stops on the way to our destination.
MVSKOKE NATION YOUTH COUNCIL
The Mvskoke Nation Youth Council (MNYC) was formed in June of 2015. The MNYC is made up of the citizens of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation who are ages 12-24. The purpose of the Mvskoke Nation Youth Council is as follows:
• To empower Mvskoke Youth by listening and taking action
• To enhance our voice by promoting positive changes and informed decisions
• To affect all generations and sustain the Mvskoke way of life.
MNYC Meeting are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Mound Auditorium at the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Tribal Complex located at Highway 75 and Loop 56 in Okmulgee, OK.
